FITZROY BAROMETER
Fitzroy Barometer. El Almirante Fitzroy (1805-1865) was commander of HMS Beagle, taking part in Darwin’s expedition from 1831 to 1836. In 1831, at the age of just 22, Charles Darwin embarked on a scientific expedition that took him to America and Oceania. After his return, five years later, he left behind the germ of the theory of evolution
In addition to his naval career, Fitzroy began a pioneering work in the field of meteorology.
The Beagle’s instrumentation for Dartwin’s expedition included several timers as well as barometers that Fitzroy used for weather forecasting. Observing the changes that occurred in the liquid that the vessel contained by the so-called “strom glass” could prevent the changes that would occur in the climate during the crossing.
In a very rudimentary way we could say that a “storm glass” is a kind of miniature earth planet to reach everywhere and give a view of the weather forecast. Made of very resistant pine wood, polished with natural waxes, which guarantees its perfect state of conservation.
It is accompanied by a large explanatory guide to learn how to interpret the data that the barometer offers.
