Beautiful 16th century reproduction of the armillary spheres manufactured by Tycho de Brahe.
Tycho Brahe (1546-1601) was a Danish astronomer, astrologer, and alchemist recognized for his accurate observations of celestial bodies, which changed beliefs about how the universe was organized.
Although Brahe’s observations showed that the system of the time was flawed, he did not favor Nicolas Copernicus and his heliocentric model. His model proposed that the moon and sun rotated in orbits around the Earth, while the other five known planets rotated around the sun.
His observations included a study of the solar system and the position of more than 700 stars, being five times more accurate than others of the time. In fact, he was described as “the first competent mind in modern astronomy to ardently feel the passion for exact empirical facts.”
This sphere is the perfect decorative complement for a library or office and the ideal gift for astronomy lovers.
