LIVINGSTONE COMPASS AND SUNDIAL
With this compass and sundial, you will carry in your pocket a beautiful and precise compass and a sundial, all in the small format of a keychain or pendant.
THE COMPASS
A compass is an orientation instrument, used to determine the cardinal direction and spatially locate oneself with respect to the magnetic north, by means of a magnetized needle.
In addition to the needle, a compass contains the compass rose (a graduated circular disk marked with the cardinal points). They may have other additional elements such as a base, a magnifying glass or directional marks.
SUNDIAL
A sundial is an instrument used since ancient times to measure time through the position of the sun in the sky and the shadow cast by an object known as a gnomon on a plane with hourly marks. The gnomon or rod is the key piece, and is arranged perpendicularly on the surface of the clock, generating a shadow on it. The extent of the shadow indicates the current time.
HOW IT WORKS
It is very easy to use. First, open the box to see the compass and orient yourself along the north-south meridian. Once this is done, close it again and lift the “gnomon”. The shadow produced by this will indicate the solar time.
PRESENTATION
It is presented in a beautiful wooden box decorated with astronomical and nautical motifs, which makes this instrument the perfect gift for friends of nature, science and navigation.
It can be used as a key ring or as a pendant for the neck.
