This type of horizontal sundial, called pocket watches, was widely used during the 16th and 17th centuries throughout Europe.
Their handling was very simple and they were conveniently manufactured for each latitude, they gave (and give) the solar time with enough precision.
There were them with all types of finishes, from the simplest ones for the humblest classes to those made of ivory with inlaid precious stones for the wealthiest.
This model, called Escorial, is shaped like a book and is made of wood and covered in authentic embossed leather. The interior plates are finely engraved brass which gives it a different and very special finish.
It comes with instructions for use with a brief history about the sundial.
