GOTHIC COMPASS
Gothic compass. A compass is an orientation instrument, used to determine the cardinal direction and spatially locate oneself in relation to the magnetic north, by means of a magnetized needle.
HISTORY
The first compass emerged in China. It was used primarily as a navigation instrument that allowed overseas travelers to orient themselves in space and define the path to follow, but it was not infallible. Over time, other compass systems were developed.
It is a fundamental instrument for sailors, hikers, pilots, hunters, explorers, etc. It serves as a guide to orient oneself in the terrain and is especially useful when exploring unknown areas.
OPERATION
Its operation is based on the principle of the magnetized needle, which is sensitive to the Earth’s magnetic field and aligns itself parallel to the lines of magnetic force generated by the Earth.
Said needle rotates freely on a pivot in the center of the compass and one of its ends is generally painted in color to indicate the magnetic north. This, in turn, serves as a reference for determining other cardinal points.
