CLASSIC HOURGLASS
Classic hourglass. For many centuries, the hourglass was a key piece on most ships. Sailors used it to measure, for example, the distance from east to west. On Diego de Magallanes’ voyage around the world, all ships had an hourglass to measure time with absolute precision.
Our hourglass is a reproduction of the classic hourglasses that were used in the offices, laboratories of scientists and thinkers, churches, convents, etc., during the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries.
Previously, the clepsydra was used to measure time. However, this element had a major problem, and that is that, when temperatures were low, it often suffered condensation inside. The hourglass, by using granular materials, did not freeze.
Its beautifully turned balusters stand out and it is made of beech wood, which guarantees great robustness and resistance, for example, to temperature changes.
We have it in two finishes

in which we include on both covers a compass rose in marquetry made by hand with oak and pine wood,
